On the Issues

Affordable Housing

Ontario, like much of California, is experiencing a housing crisis. The lack of affordable housing options has pushed many of our residents to leave their communities, while many who stay struggle living paycheck to paycheck. This housing crisis is especially dire for vulnerable senior citizens and our future generations. I believe all of our residents deserve to live and thrive in their communities, and I will prioritize affordable and accessible housing as a right for all. By bringing all stakeholders to the table homeowners, renters, and county officials—we can work together to solve our housing crisis and build a flourishing Ontario.

As your Councilmember I will:

  • Advocate for tenant rights and a rent control policy to protect tenants and prevent against homelessness.
  • Work with developers to build more housing in our city, and set aside a significant amount of units for low to moderate-income housing

Small Business Development & Good Quality Jobs

Growing up in a working-class family, I understand the challenges many families face in finding stable, well-paying jobs within their own community. I believe we can bring sustainable industries to Ontario by investing in the entrepreneurial potential of our residents and improving our city planning to make Ontario a go-to destination. This is especially important for our Downtown area, which I envision as a hub for economic and cultural renaissance, bringing business and opportunities to our residents. By supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs, Ontario can create good jobs, offer financial mobility to its residents, and ensure economic strength through diverse income sources.

As your Councilmember I will:

  • Champion worker’s rights by advocating for the right to organize and unionize without fear of intimidation or retaliation.
  • Prioritize growth and revival of our Downtown while preserving the historic character of our city.
  • Ensure that our downtown revitalization plans are accessible to all Ontario small businesses and underserved communities.
  • Work to bring local and state resources that give small business owners the tools they need to operate successful enterprises with a High-Road workforce.
  • Promote career and technical education by collaborating with labor unions and workers’ rights organizations to enhance career technical education programs, equipping Ontario’s workforce with the skills needed for high-demand, high-paying jobs

Creating a Healthier Ontario

Creating a healthier Ontario where families can thrive, children feel safe, and our residents have access to clean air and water is essential. Ontario has made commendable strides in supporting families through investments in park improvements, summer programs, and in arts and culture. However, as our city grows, we need to remain mindful of the future generations and prioritize the protection of our water resources and improvement of air quality through strategic planning and updating zoning laws.

As your Councilmember I will:

  • Work with community members across Ontario to ensure equitable investments in city programs, so that all residents have access to quality services and amenities.
  • Partner with artists, businesses, and developers to further invigorate the arts in our downtown district.
  • Work towards responsible development policies that improve air quality and protect our local environment. This includes revisiting zoning laws to prevent the construction of  warehouses next to our homes, schools, parks, and hospitals.

Homelessness/Unhoused People

Ontario is a compassionate and caring city that is deeply concerned about the hundreds of people experiencing housing insecurity. We need innovative, community-driven solutions that focus on the well-being, dignity and safety of those experiencing homelessness. The reality is that many of our neighbors, friends, and loved ones are one emergency expense away from facing housing insecurity.

As your Councilmember, I will:

  • Work to increase capacity for local shelters and provide services such as job training and mental health support for those experiencing homelessness.
  • Collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies to bring the necessary resources that Ontario needs to address this crisis with compassion, common sense, and dignity.
  • Unite government agencies, non-profits, and local stakeholders to address this issue collaboratively and compassionately.

Public Safety

Everyone deserves to feel safe in their homes and in their communities. I will prioritize public safety by adopting a city budget and fostering a relationship with local law enforcement that promotes accountability and reflects the community’s values. Additionally, I will invest in resources and opportunities that address the root causes of violence  and crime, ensuring long-term public safety.

  • Invest in resources and initiatives that tackle the underlying causes of violence and crime, such as poverty, lack of education, and limited access to mental health services.
  • Invest in youth programs that provide mentoring, educational, and professional opportunities, empowering our young residents and reducing crime.
  • Secure funding for programs that offer at-risk youth access to mental health services, mentoring, and opportunities that foster personal and professional growth.
